Water Conservation & Drought Information
The City of Daingerfield is committed to protecting our community’s water supply through responsible water management and public education. Water conservation helps ensure that adequate water is available for drinking, sanitation, fire protection, and future growth.
The City provides water service to approximately 1,349 connections and purchases treated water from the Northeast Texas Municipal Water District (NETMWD), whose source water comes from the Cypress Creek Basin and Lake O’ the Pines. Protecting this water supply is essential for maintaining reliable service to our community.
Residents, businesses, and institutions are encouraged to practice water conservation every day.
Current Drought Status
Status: Normal Conditions (No Restrictions in Effect)
The City of Daingerfield continuously monitors water supply conditions and system demand. If necessary, the City may activate stages of the Drought Contingency Plan to protect the water system and ensure reliable service.
If drought restrictions become necessary, residents will be notified through:
- City website updates
- City social media pages
- Text alert system
- Local media announcements
- Public postings
The City Manager or their designee is responsible for implementing and enforcing the drought response stages when conditions require them.
Outdoor Watering Schedule (During Drought Restrictions)
If drought restrictions are implemented, the City may require an odd/even watering schedule to help reduce water demand and maintain system pressure.
Even Numbered Addresses
Addresses ending in 0, 2, 4, 6, or 8
Allowed watering days:
Sunday and Thursday
Odd Numbered Addresses
Addresses ending in 1, 3, 5, 7, or 9
Allowed watering days:
Saturday and Wednesday
Allowed Watering Hours
Outdoor irrigation should occur only during the following hours:
- Midnight – 10:00 AM
- 8:00 PM – Midnight
These hours reduce evaporation and help manage peak water demand.
Always Allowed
The following methods may be used at any time:
- Hand-held hose with shut-off nozzle
- Watering can or bucket (5 gallons or less)
- Drip irrigation systems
Everyday Water Conservation Tips
Small changes can make a big difference in conserving water.
Inside the Home
- Repair leaking faucets, toilets, and irrigation systems promptly
- Install water-efficient showerheads and faucets
- Run dishwashers and washing machines only when full
- Take shorter showers
- Check your water meter periodically for hidden leaks
Toilets alone account for about 24% of indoor household water use, and a leaking toilet can waste hundreds of gallons of water per day.
Outside the Home
- Water lawns during cooler parts of the day
- Avoid watering sidewalks or driveways
- Use mulch around plants to retain moisture
- Adjust irrigation systems to prevent runoff
Water Conservation for Businesses
Businesses and institutions can also help conserve water by:
- Conducting water audits of buildings and operations
- Installing efficient fixtures and equipment
- Monitoring water meters for unusual usage
- Reusing or recycling water when possible
- Training employees on conservation practices
Efficient water use can reduce operating costs while supporting long-term sustainability.
