Code Compliance
The City of Daingerfield’s Code Compliance Department plays a vital role in maintaining the health, safety, and overall quality of life for our residents and visitors. We are committed to ensuring that all buildings, properties, and businesses meet the legal standards set by city ordinances, building codes, zoning laws, and public health requirements.
What We Do
Our department is responsible for monitoring and enforcing a wide range of local codes that impact daily life in our community:
Building Code Compliance
We enforce state and local building codes to ensure all structures are safe, structurally sound, and meet current safety regulations.
-
Oversight includes construction standards, renovations, additions, and demolition.
-
All construction activities require proper building permits prior to work beginning.
Zoning & Land Use
Zoning laws define how land can be used—residential, commercial, industrial, or recreational.
-
Our office ensures property development complies with the City of Daingerfield Zoning Ordinance.
-
This helps preserve neighborhood character, reduce land-use conflicts, and promote orderly growth.
Permits & Applications
We manage the permitting process for:
-
Building permits
-
Electrical permits
-
Plumbing permits
-
Demolition permits
-
Food service permits
Visit our Permits & Applications Page to access forms and instructions.
Inspections
All permitted construction and development projects are subject to inspections by licensed professionals.
-
Inspections verify compliance with approved plans and code requirements.
-
Regular inspections help identify potential issues early, saving time and money for property owners.
Code Enforcement
When code violations are found, our goal is to work cooperatively with property owners to bring properties into compliance.
Common violations include:
-
Unsafe or unpermitted construction
-
Inoperable vehicles or junk accumulation
-
Overgrown grass or weeds
-
Unauthorized signage or business operations
Enforcement actions may include warnings, fines, notices of violation, or stop-work orders.
Food Safety Compliance
Our Food Safety Division oversees food establishments in Daingerfield.
-
All food service businesses must obtain a City-issued Food Service Permit before operating.
-
Routine inspections are conducted 1–2 times per year.
-
Each establishment must have at least one certified food manager on staff.
-
Food trucks and mobile vendors are also required to be permitted and inspected.
Our Approach
The Code Compliance team prioritizes education before enforcement. We are here to help you understand the requirements and support compliance efforts that protect the well-being of everyone in Daingerfield.
